Yoga Props - Using Chairs

Chairs a very useful in yoga. Make sure the chair is sturdy and stable since you will be putting all your weight on it in some poses.

Chairs are particularly useful for seated yoga postures involving twists. The chair allows you to rotate your torso effectively and maintain alignment of your shoulders. The ideal chair for this type of yoga pose is a folding metal chair with an open back rest, since this type of chair design allows you to place your legs through the open back rest in preparation for the seated twists.

 
 

Chairs are also useful for back bends as pictured above. A folding metal chair with the open back rest allows you to spread your weight evenly.

Chairs are also useful for non classical supported shoulder stands, where by holding the back chair legs, you can more easily adjust the positioning of your shoulders and neck.
